Looking away is not his thing. He has a way of drawing the attention quite concertedly towards the things that people would prefer not to see. Highlights the undesirable, pulls unloved deprived children into the light of day. He invites people to look. Felix Tschurtschenthaler is an artist with heart and soul, uncomfortable, provocative and disarmingly honest. A man with a genuine vision – in two respects: the second great passion of the Sexten native is the mountains. “Everything pointless that’s fun,” says the mountain and skiing guide self-deprecatingly. But it would be precisely such views from the summit that would do all of us some good in life. And every now and again come back down to earth, gain an overview. After his years of training, wood carving in the Valle Aurina and wood sculpting in Val Gardena and Munich, this creative mind, who was born in 1980, was accepted into the Academy of Fine Arts, from where he graduated in 2012 – and straight away returned home. Since then he has continued to surprise with new projects, scrutinise the things we take for granted, and inspired people – with a wink – to reflect. And he tears people from their grey everyday lives, accompanies them to the summit of the Sexten Dolomite mountains and gives a little more vision to all those who can and wish to take it.
