Where in the early years it was mainly local chamois hunters and well-travelled alpinists who tackled the Dolomite summits after thorough preparation, nowadays a colourful mix of people make their way here. From experienced mountain pros to leisure hikers, from adventurous city-dwellers to nature-lovers and people seeking tranquillity. Dyed in the wool mountain goats and pioneers, insiders and newbies. Whilst their characters and the contents of their rucksacks may differ widely, their expectations of the mountains as an experience are much the same: they come to enjoy nature and the views, feel their own strength, push their limits and enjoy their share of summit euphoria. Yes, mountains can be a source of happiness! But here too there are stumbling blocks – and accordingly also a code of conduct that has developed over the decades.
