Rifugi alpini - un filo di perle nelle Dolomiti
Quando alpinisti famosi come il viennese co-fondatore del club alpino austriaco Paul Grohmann, attorno al 1860 iniziarono a interessarsi alle Dolomiti, queste erano ancora un massiccio inaccessibile e selvaggio. Solo i cacciatori e i contrabbandieri conoscevano sentieri segreti, passi, luoghi riparati dove pernottare e sorgenti d'acqua potabile.
Per evitare che la straordinaria bellezza delle Dolomiti di Sesto rimanesse una prerogativa di una piccola e nobile cerchia di alpinisti, a poco a poco furono allestiti sentieri e costruiti primi ripari che servivano da base per scalate e ascensioni sulle vette.
Nel corso del tempo i rifugi furono ampliati e oggi dispongono quasi sempre di elettricità e acqua corrente, ma rimangono comunque rifugi alpini che, come perle, costellano le Dolomiti di Sesto
