TRACCE | SPUREN è una installazione che vuole valorizzare la memoria di chi ha affrontato le Dolomiti oltre un secolo fa, i pionieri dell’alpinismo. Lungo un percorso che ha inizio alla stazione ferroviaria di San Candido e che attraversa i paesi di Sesto e Moso fino ad arrivare all’imboccatura della Val Fiscalina sono posizionati, come se fossero stati dimenticati, oggetti che scalatori e guide alpine di oltre un secolo fa usavano portare con sé. Si tratta di oggetti storici dell’attrezzatura alpina riprodotti in scala reale in fusione di alluminio; ogni “traccia” racconta una storia diversa di nomi e imprese dei pionieri dell’alpinismo di 150 anni fa.
Fine 1800: ci immaginiamo un intrepido alpinista che giunge a San Candido con il treno a vapore per proseguire fino a Sesto con la diligenza. La sua meta è la panchina di fronte alla locanda Zur Post a Sesto dove incontra alcune guide che gli indicheranno le vie o, concordato il prezzo, lo accompagneranno di persona alla conquista delle cime ancora intoccate delle Dolomiti di Sesto, così ambite dagli alpinisti in quel periodo a caccia di prime ascensioni. Lungo la strada l’alpinista “dimentica” alcuni oggetti del suo equipaggiamento, che da quel momento rappresentano una traccia del suo passaggio: la giacca in tessuto di lana per le giornate di tempo avverso, la corda di canapa, un piccone, lo zaino, e molti altri oggetti.

SPUREN | TRACCE ist eine Installation die darauf abzielt, die Erinnerung an jene zu erhalten die vor über einem Jahrhundert die Geschichte der Dolomiten prägten, die Pioniere des Bergsteigens. Entlang eines Weges, der am Bahnhof von Innichen beginnt und durch das Bergsteigerdorf Sexten bis zum Eingang des Fischleintals führt, werden Gegenstände, welche Kletterer und Bergführer aus über einem Jahrhundert mit sich führten so positioniert, als wären sie vergessen worden. Es handelt sich dabei um Reproduktionen historischer alpiner Ausrüstungsgegenstände aus Aluminiumguss; jede “Spur” erzählt eine andere Geschichte von Pionieren und deren Leistungen vor 150 Jahren.
Ende 1800: Stellen Sie sich einen unerschrockenen Alpinisten vor, der mit dem Zug nach Innichen kommt und mit der Postkutsche nach Sexten fährt. Sein Ziel ist die „Bergführerbank“ vor dem Gasthaus Zur Post in Sexten, wo er auf einige Bergführer trifft. Diese erklären ihm die Routen oder begleiten ihn persönlich zur Eroberung der noch unberührten Gipfel der Sextner Dolomiten, welche damals wie heute von Bergsteigern aus der ganzen Welt auf ihrer Suche nach Erstbegehungen begehrt werden. Unterwegs “vergisst” der zerstreute Alpinist einige Gegenstände: die Wollstoffjacke für Tage schlechten Wetters, das Hanfseill, ein Eispickel, den Rucksack und viele weitere Gegenstände seiner Ausrüstung….Spuren der Sextner Alpingeschichte.

SPUREN | TRACCE, meaning traces, footsteps, is an installation that aims to preserve the memory of those who shaped the history of the Dolomites over a century ago, the pioneers of mountaineering. Along a route that starts at the train station of San Candido and leads through the mountaineering village of Sesto to the entrance to Val Fiscalina, objects that climbers and mountain guides from over a century ago carried with them, are positioned as if they had been forgotten. These are reproductions of historical Alpine equipment made of cast aluminium; each “trace” tells a different story of pioneers and their achievements of 150 years ago.
End of 1800: Imagine an intrepid Alpinist coming to San Candido by train and taking the stagecoach to Sesto. His destination is the “Bergführerbank” in front of the Gasthaus Zur Post in Sesto, where he meets a few mountain guides. They explain the routes to him or accompany him personally to the conquest of the still untouched peaks of the Sesto Dolomites, which were, then as now, sought after by mountaineers from all over the world on their quest for first ascents. On the way the scattered Alpinist “forgets” some objects: the wool jacket for bad weather days, the hemp rope, an ice pick, the rucksack and many other objects of his equipment…. traces of the Sesto Alpine history.
